Quick answer

A free construction timesheet template for Excel. It holds one week for one job: 15 worker lines with hours for Monday through Sunday, each worker's total, the regular hours and the overtime past a threshold you set, and a total for each day. A supervisor and an approver sign at the bottom. It records hours only, with no wage or pay figure.

What it's for

This construction timesheet template records who worked how many hours on one job in one week. A foreman or supervisor fills it in each day or at the end of the week, signs it, and hands it up for approval.

The file holds hours only. It has no wage, rate or pay column and computes no pay figure. The hours it totals are the starting point for whoever prices or pays labor, and our labor burden spreadsheet and labor burden calculator work out what an hour costs once taxes and insurance go on top. For what happened on site each day, keep a daily report alongside; the timesheet says who put in hours, and the daily report says what got done.

What's inside

Two sheets, both protected with no password. Pale yellow cells are yours to fill in; all other cells are locked.

Timesheet opens on your letterhead, printed "TIMESHEET," with WEEK ENDING and SHEET NO. Below it:

TOTAL, REGULAR, OVERTIME and the day totals calculate. Everything else is yours to fill in. The sheet prints landscape on one page.

About this template holds three steps, a note on the example lines, the version, the license and links to related pages.

How to fill it in

  1. Type your details over the yellow letterhead, then enter WEEK ENDING and SHEET NO. To remove the YOUR LOGO text, choose Review > Unprotect Sheet (there is no password), then protect the sheet again.
  2. Fill in PROJECT, JOB NO. and SUPERVISOR.
  3. Set OVERTIME AFTER (HOURS), the weekly hours past which overtime counts. The 40 shown is only an example, and the file doesn't decide your threshold, so enter yours. Clear it, or enter 0, to count every hour as regular.
  4. Clear or replace the two example lines, then add one line per worker: the WORKER, the TRADE OR CLASS and the hours for each day. A day cell takes 0 to 24 hours, decimals included, such as 7.5.
  5. Read TOTAL, REGULAR and OVERTIME on each line, and the Day totals row under them.
  6. Have the supervisor sign and date under SUPERVISOR SIGNATURE, and the approver under APPROVED BY.

A line counts once it has a worker name or any hours. Overtime is figured on each worker's week total, so a long day doesn't count as overtime by itself, and the file has no daily threshold. Leave a day blank for a day off: a blank cell and a 0 add the same. Each week runs Monday through Sunday, so start a new sheet, with its own WEEK ENDING, every week. WEEK ENDING and the two sign-off dates are typed, not calculated, and those cells don't check what you type. Use a second sheet, numbered under SHEET NO., when a crew is larger than 15.

The worked example

The file opens on two example lines with OVERTIME AFTER (HOURS) set to 40. The About tab says to replace them and the threshold with your own.

WorkerTrade or classMonTueWedThuFriSatSunTotalRegularOvertime
Example: worker 1Carpenter1010910847407
Example: worker 2Laborer8888840400
Day totals18181718160087807

Worker 1 worked 47 hours, so 40 are regular and 7 are overtime. Worker 2 worked exactly 40, so all are regular. Each day total adds down its column (Monday is 10 plus 8, or 18), and the last three totals add down theirs: 47 plus 40 is 87 hours, of which 80 are regular and 7 overtime.

Frequently asked questions

Does it calculate pay?

No. The file holds hours only. It has no wage or pay column, and it computes no pay figure.

Does it work in Google Sheets or Numbers?

Both open .xlsx files. This one has no macros, and its formulas use only IF, AND, MIN, MAX, ROUND and SUM.

Can I add worker lines?

Yes. Unprotect the sheet (there's no password), insert a row between two worker lines so the day totals take it in, copy TOTAL, REGULAR and OVERTIME from the row above, then protect the sheet again. The sheet prints on one page, so added rows shrink the print; check the print preview.

Can I put my logo on it?

Yes. Insert it where the sheet says YOUR LOGO. That row is 36 pt (half an inch) tall, so a logo sized to it fits without dragging the row taller. To remove the YOUR LOGO text, choose Review > Unprotect Sheet (there is no password), then protect the sheet again.

Is it a payroll register or a certified payroll report?

No. It isn't a WH-347, and it computes nothing about pay. The layout and labels are our own.

Is it legal advice?

No. The file adds up the hours you type and splits them at the threshold you enter. It doesn't decide what counts as overtime for your crew; its own note says to check the federal and state overtime rules that apply.
